Are you planning to visit the Oregon Coast? Arch Cape is an excellent choice for anyone who enjoys nature, beaches, and charming Oregon Coast towns (it’s a vibe). And the views? Spectacular! If you’re looking for things to do in Arch Cape, Oregon, here are some of the most popular activities and attractions that you won’t want to miss.

Things To Do In Arch Cape, Oregon

Where is Arch Cape?

First things first: Arch Cape is a tiny unincorporated community in Clatsop County, Oregon. It’s located about 10 miles south of Cannon Beach, and it’s a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle. Arch Cape lies just off Highway 101 – the main highway running along the Oregon Coast – and makes for an easy day trip or weekend getaway.

Arch Cape Attractions

Next, you need to know what there is to see, explore, and experience. For a quiet beach town, Arch Cape is impressively positioned near a variety of attractions, both around town and because of its proximity to other places. Here are some notable landmarks and attractions to take note of while planning your Oregon Coast getaway:

The Beaches…

Arch Cape Attractions and Beaches

Ahh! – the reason you made it all the way to the Oregon Coast. The beaches are a central attraction of Arch Cape, and there are plenty of them to choose from. Arch Cape is best known for its secluded beaches and breathtaking views. Nature lovers will enjoy tide pooling and beachcombing at Arch Cape State Park, but the area also offers a variety of activities – from swimming to surfing — for all types of visitors. Let’s go over some of our picks for things to do when in Arch Cape.

Hug Point at Hug Point State Recreation Site

Hug Point State Park is a popular destination for Arch Cape visitors. Located just south of Arch Cape, this stunning patch of coastline offers plenty of activities for people of all ages. Visitors can explore the sea cave, soak in the breathtaking views, enjoy beach combing, or take a nature walk along the nearby trails. There is also tidepooling, beachcombing, and fishing.

Cannon Beach

Cannon Beach is Arch Cape’s closest neighbor, and it’s just a short drive away. This beach has been the backdrop for many Hollywood films, including The Goonies! At Cannon Beach, visitors can relax on the sandy beaches or explore Haystack Rock—a magnificent 235-foot sea stack. Other activities such as tide pooling, surfing, kayaking, and horseback riding (and so much more) are also popular at Cannon Beach.

Arcadia Beach at Arcadia Beach State Recreation Site

Arcadia Beach – just 3 miles south of Cannon Beach, provides a magnificent 1-mile stretch of sand for you to rejuvenate and observe the incredible Pacific Ocean. You can discover sea stacks, amazing tide pools revealed during low tides, as well as grottos! The beach stretches between Humbug Point in the north and Hug Point Beach in the south; both could be explored when the water level is down. However, always keep an eye out for incoming tides so that you don’t become stranded or washed away!

For an unforgettable experience, visit Humbug Point and Tolovana Beach or Hug Point and Hug Point Beach during low tide. Here you can savor the beauty of nature while delighting in activities like beachcombing, kayaking, picnicking, surf fishing or exploring the fascinating tidepools. Make your journey one to remember at these exquisite beaches!

Short Sands Beach

A 5-minute drive from Arch Cape down US 101, the captivating Smugglers Cove, more commonly known as Short Sand Beach or “Shorty’s,” has made its mark as a renowned surfing and boogie boarding destination in Oregon. With consistent surf conditions away from heavy weather disturbances and an alluring beachscape suitable for strolling, both amateur riders and seasoned pros flock to this magnificent spot! During the summer months, beach popularity is at its peak; choose weekdays or wintertime to experience a more isolated atmosphere.

The State Parks….

Archscape - State Parks

State parks are a big part of Arch Cape’s attractions. While many of the beaches mentioned above are found within these parks, there is so much more to them than their beaches. That’s why we have to shine the spotlight on the Arch Cape area State Parks.

Arch Cape State Park

Arch Cape State Park features a beautiful beach and shoreline, two small lagoons, and a spectacular view of the ocean from the Arch Cape headland. The park not only offers stunning scenery, but also provides excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing. Arch Cape is home to bald eagles and gray whales, as well as other species of birds and marine life.

Hug Point State Park

Hug Point State Park is located just south of Arch Cape and features a beach, headland, sea cave, tide pools and a pristine coastline. With plenty of trails to explore in the park’s interior, visitors can spend the day hiking while enjoying the area’s stunning views.

The Hiking Trails….

Archscape Hiking Trails

Cape Falcon Trail

For hikers, Arch Cape is the stuff of dreams – and the iconic Cape Falcon Trail stands out as a true highlight. Embark on this 5.2-mile out-and-back trail near Nehalem, Oregon and take in the glory of nature! This moderately difficult route takes an estimated two hours and six minutes to complete, making it convenient for a leisurely weekend trip. May through October are ideal times to hit up this path since birding as well as hiking is popular here; be sure your pup’s leashed, though. It’s likely you will run into many other hikers en route.

Oregon Coast Trail: Arch Cape to Short Sand Beach

Oswald West State Park is an excellent destination for those seeking peace and quiet. As you trek between Arch Cape and Cape Falcon, the woods are dense yet serene – civilization is never far away. Once at the top of the rocky cliffs, spectacular views of Cape Falcon’s three headlands stretch in front of you. You then descend to Short Sand Beach surrounded by majestic Sitka spruce trees. Venture out and treat yourself to this awe-inspiring landscape!

Oregon Coast Trail: Arch Cape to Devil’s Cauldron

This trail is ideal for a mountain biking or hiking adventure, and the difficulty level tends to be moderate. On average, it takes 4 hours and 12 minutes to finish, so pack snacks! This path provides more peace and solitude than most other trails because you’re unlikely to run into too many people while exploring. The most ideal time of year to hike this route is between March-October, just remember that pups aren’t allowed on this trail!

What to do in Arch Cape with the Kids?

If you’re looking for ways to entertain the kids at Arch Cape, there are plenty of options. Arch Cape offers numerous recreational activities, from hiking trails and tidepools to sandy beaches. Kids will love exploring the many tidepools at Arch Cape – they can observe a variety of sea creatures and learn about the natural environment. Arch Cape also features a variety of beaches, perfect for sandcastles and beachcombing! Take a picnic to Arch Cape’s pristine Cannon Beach or Manzanita Beach; both feature plenty of space for kids to roam around safely.
