Mt. Hood Sightseeing and Attractions

Mt Hood
February 18, 2023
Mt Hood

Mt. Hood offers endless scenic recreation activities from hiking, fishing, and golfing to nearly year-round skiing. Whether you’re hitting the slopes or trails, casting a line, or enjoying après ski spots, check out some of the best things to do and see in Mt. Hood.

Winter Playground

Mount Hood Meadows, Mt. Hood Skibowl and Timberline can’t be beat for skiing and snowboarding. Meadows boasts a big mountain experience with 11 lifts, 85 runs, and 2,150 acres of skiable terrain to explore. Skibowl is home to the largest night ski area in the country, and Timberline is as popular for its historical lodge as for its runs.

Prefer tubing, sledding, or cross-country skiing? Luckily for you, you can snow play to your heart’s content in Mt Hood. We guarantee the whole family will love cosmic tubing at Skibowl’s Snow Tube & Adventure Park. Enjoy a party on the mountain with over 600,000 LED lights, laser light shows, black lights, colored lights, rock music, and more!

During the summer, Mt. Hood Adventure Park at Skibowl offers something for everyone with over 20 fun-filled attractions – a bungee tower and trampoline, miles of mountain biking trails, a rock wall, Indy Karts, a Super Kids’ Play Zone, their infamous ½ mile Alpine Slide, and more!

Cast a Line

The Mt. Hood National Forest provides an endless number of fishing opportunities for beginner and experienced anglers. Beautiful rivers, stunning alpine lakes, flowing streams and reservoirs teem with bass, salmon, steelhead, and trout.

For fishing license purchase, fishing rules, and fishing regulations visit Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife.

Head for the Trails

Mt. Hood and the surrounding area offers miles of picturesque trails to explore. Some of these trails also lead to some stunning waterfalls. There are too many to list, but some of our favorite family-friendly trails – pups included too – are Tamanawas Falls Trail, Little Zigzag Falls Trail, Trillium Lake Loop Trail, Mirror Lake Loop Trail, and Old Salmon River Trail.

Mt. Hood is also becoming a mecca for mountain biking. Experienced riders, check out the 8-mile Pioneer Bridle Trail. Want to get from one end of Government Camp to the other? Grab your bike and have a blast on the 3-mile Crosstown Trail with a 400-foot climb and rolling terrain. This trail also intersects with several other popular trails, making it easy to extend your ride.

Hit the Links

Open for play year-round, Mt. Hood Oregon Resort offers 27 holes with stunning views and stellar greens. The Courses, nestled at the base of the mountain in Salmon River Valley, offer players three 9-hole courses that can be done alone or in any combination, promising a fun and scenic round.

Mt. Hood Cultural Center and Museum

Enjoy learning about the history of the area as you explore the museum’s 6 main galleries dedicated to Mt. Hood and the Government Camp region, skiing, and trailblazing the Cascade Mountains. Make sure and stop by the gift shop to pick up a gift for that special someone, or a memento for yourself!

When Hunger Strikes

Fuel up pre or post hitting the mountain at some of these local favorite spots. For breakfast, you can’t beat the huckleberry pancakes and hash browns at Huckleberry Inn Café. High Mountain Cafe in Government Camp is also a popular spot offering loaded breakfast sandwiches and a Bloody Mary bar.

Toast to a memorable day at Ratskeller, voted Oregon’s best après-ski bar in 2014. Enjoy loaded pizzas, deluxe burgers, draft beers, and crafted cocktails. Mt Hood Brewing Company is another great spot for beers and bites after a long day on the slopes or trails.
