Mt. Hood Ski Resorts

Mount Hood, the tallest mountain in Oregon, is a popular destination for skiing and snowboarding. Offering a variety of ski resorts and over 11 miles of terrain that caters to every skill level, we guarantee a snow-tastic experience on the slopes!  Here is some helpful information about ski resorts in the Mt. Hood area:  Timberline Lodge and Ski Area  Timberline Lodge is one of the most iconic ski areas on Mount Hood. The lodge itself is a historic building built in 1937 and is situated near the timberline on the southern flank of the mountain.  Timberline offers year-round skiing, thanks to the Palmer Snowfield, which is open even in the summer. During the winter, skiers and snowboarders can enjoy a variety of terrain, including groomed runs and challenging slopes.   Mount Hood Meadows  Mount Hood Meadows is a larger ski resort with diverse terrain suitable for all skill levels. It is located on the east side of Mount Hood.  The resort has a mix of groomed runs, glades, and challenging bowls. There are also terrain parks for snowboarders and freestyle skiers. Mount Hood Meadows typically has a longer season, running from late fall to late spring.  Ski Bowl   Mount Hood Skibowl is another popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts. It is located on the southern side of Mount Hood and offers a range of activities beyond skiing, including snow tubing and night skiing.  Skibowl has a variety of runs, and its proximity to Portland makes it a convenient option for day trips.  Cooper Spur Mountain Resort  Cooper Spur is a family-friendly resort on the northeastern side of Mount Hood, known for its laid-back atmosphere and beautiful views. While smaller than some other resorts, Cooper Spur offers a range of terrain, making it suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers.  Please note: Due to a lack of snow Cooper Spur Ski Area is currently closed. For daily updates and live view of the ski area, please visit their Conditions Report page.  Before planning a skiing trip to Mount Hood, it’s advisable to check the current snow conditions, weather forecasts, and resort information.  Ready to Book Your Winter Escape to the Mountains?  We have an amazing collection of vacation rentals from cozy cabins to mountain retreats for large groups. Many of our homes have hot tubs and allow pets, so the whole family can get in on endless winter fun. Make some unforgettable memories this holiday season on Mt. Hood!

Mt. Hood Hikes to Local Waterfalls

Mt. Hood is better known for skiing and alpine lakes, but when the warmer months approach, the snow begins to melt, and trails appear leading hikers to some beautiful falls.  Check out some of these scenic waterfalls on your next visit to Mt. Hood:  Tamanawas Falls This moderate 3.4-mile out-and-back trail on the east side of Mt. Hood will lead you along the banks of Cold Spring Creek, through a massive boulder field, finally arriving at the picturesque Tamanawas Falls. The falls are over 100ft tall and 40ft wide, and cascade over a basalt lava cliff. The best time to visit this trail is between May through October. Leashed dogs are welcome.  Umbrella Falls Located on the eastern flank of Mt. Hood near Government Camp, this popular family-friendly 3.4-mile loop weaves you through towering trees and a lush canopy overhead. From the viewing platform, marvel at the majestic 59-foot falls, named for their unique shape. Another waterfall, Sahalie Falls standing at 78ft, can be viewed by continuing along this trail. Leashed dogs are welcome.  Ramona Falls This moderate 7.1-mile loop is known for striking scenery – mountain views, lush green forests, sandy river beaches, classic Northwest flora and fauna, and a stunning 120-foot waterfall. The best time to visit is between May and October. Leashed dogs are welcome.   Little Zigzag Falls The Little Zigzag trail is an easy, family-friendly 0.6-mile out-and-back trail that meanders along a beautiful stream to a scenic waterfall, tumbling in two splashing drops for a total of 41 feet.
