Spend Thanksgiving in South Beach!

South Beach is a beautiful stretch of the Oregon Coast, 1.5 miles south of Newport. Newport Municipal Pier, conveniently located near Rogue Brewery, is a great place to catch Dungeness crab in the summer and fall months, and red rock crab the rest of the year. Locals say the end of the pier is the best place to catch crab. You can also rent boats and gear nearby at Sawyer’s Landing RV & Marina.   If you prefer to just eat seafood, instead of catching some, head to South Beach Fish Market where you can pick up fresh crab, shrimp, or salmon to enjoy on Thanksgiving Day.  South Beach State Park  Pre- or post-Thanksgiving feast, head down to this beautiful seaside park where you can enjoy a walk on the beach or stick to the walking or biking trails. The park also features a playground, horse-shoe pits, and a 9-hole disc golf course. Please visit the park website for latest info on hours and available amenities.  Turkey Trot  Kick … or run … off your Thanksgiving Day celebration with this family friendly event. Enjoy beautiful, scenic courses around Yaquina Bay, Hatfield Marine Science Center, and the Pacific Ocean.  Costumes are strongly encouraged with prizes going to the top best costumes.   More than just a healthy start to the holiday, the Newport Turkey Trot is a fun way to support those in need with a portion of each registration being donated to the Food Share of Lincoln County  Head to Aquarium Village  Enjoy a South Beach classic experience with a visit to Aquarium Village. A family-friendly experience with shopping, dining, and entertainment opportunities, including fun nautical cut-out scenes for photo ops!   Newport Farmer’s Market  This local event is held on Saturdays, March – December, 9am – 1pm. Come stroll and shop over 60 vendors offering an array of seasonal produce, artisanal products, and more!  Dive Into the Newport Aquarium  If you are looking for a rainy day activity, head to the Newport Aquarium. An icon of Newport, the aquarium offers interactive exhibits and educational programs showcasing seabirds, marine mammals, fishes, invertebrates and plants primarily native to the Oregon Coast.  Cheers!  Oregon is known for craft beer, so pick up some unique beers for the holiday weekend at Rogue. It is just at the south side of Yaquina Bay, in Lincoln County. Known for its beauty, serenity, and many opportunities for outdoor fun, South Beach vacation rentals are also a favorite among many Meredith Lodging guests. Things to Do in South Beach, Oregon: South Beach State Park This seaside park begins south of Newport and stretches several miles down the Oregon Coast. Visitors will enjoy beautiful beach access, walking trails, biking trails and even an equestrian trail. The park features a playground, horse-shoe pits, and a 9-hole disc golf course. Disc golf continues to grow rapidly in popularity and South Beach Oregon has two premier courses. Kite Surfing Do not tell anyone you heard it here, but when the conditions are right, South Beach has some of the best “kiting” on the Oregon Coast! Visit this site and scroll down to the Newport heading. Mike Miller Educational Park This 45-acre park exhibits various mini-eco systems all along an educational nature trail. Visitors will enjoy seeing several types of impressive trees in this unique forest, including Sitka Spruce, Douglas Fir, Coastal Pine and Western Hemlock trees. Along the well-maintained nature trail, you will find bridges, observation decks, and places to stop and listen to bird calls and observe resident small animals. The Mike Miller loop is about a mile long and takes about an hour to complete. A truly special experience the whole family will enjoy! Crabbing off the Newport Municipal Pier Catch delicious Oregon Dungeness crab for dinner and make a memory you will keep forever! This pier, conveniently located near Rogue Brewery, is known to be a great place to catch abundant Dungeness crab in the summer and fall months, and red rock crab the rest of the year. The end of the pier seems to be the best place to catch crab, and you can rent boats and gear nearby at Sawyer’s Landing RV & Marina. Where to Eat in South Beach, Oregon: Wolf Tree Brewing Tap Room Located in the Wilder Corner Building in South Beach, this tap room and restaurant is popular with locals and tourists alike. Featuring an extensive list of draft beers, cider, and wine options as well as a complete menu of fabulous food, families love this dining option, and pups can join you too if there is a table available on the patio. Rogue Brewers on the Bay A beautiful place to stop and enjoy some of Oregon’s most-beloved craft beer! Rogue Brewers is one of the longest-operating breweries on the West Coast, having first opened their doors in 1988 in Ashland, Oregon. The Brewer’s on the Bay is a favorite outpost and overlooks Yaquina Bay. Offering a great menu of food and an extensive list of craft beer, we suggest you try some of their specialty beers that are only available at this location. South Beach Fish Market A seafood lover’s dream! Part fresh seafood market, part seafood restaurant and alllll delicious! We recommend this stop for their fresh caught Dungeness crab and salmon, their albacore tuna, and their famous fish-and-chips.
