Lake Lytle is a great destination for swimmers, boaters, and fishermen alike. The lake is situated in Rockaway Beach, Oregon, and offers a change of scenery for visiting the coastal area. The lake is also a great place to take the family for a picnic, or just to relax by the water. There are plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained, and the scenery is simply beautiful. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy the outdoors and spend some quality time with loved ones, Lake Lytle is the perfect spot. Here are a couple of things to note before you make the trip! New to Kayaking or Paddle-Boarding? Lake Lytle is Ideal for Beginners The gentle surface of this lake makes it ideal for beginner kayakers and paddleboarders. It is not directly fed by an ocean stream, as are other lakes in the region, and is only ruffled by boats and the wind. Don’t Forget the Insect Repellent! Although the water is calm, the insects can be quite pesky. Be sure to pack some insect repellent before you head to the lake, as you’ll definitely want to enjoy the outdoors without being bothered by bugs. Lake Lytle is Great for Swimming and Boating The lake is perfect for swimming and boating, and there are plenty of areas to relax on the shore. The water is warm and crystal clear, making it ideal for a refreshing dip. There are also several boat rental companies in the area, so you can explore the lake at your leisure. Visitors should note that Lake Lytle is directly off Highway 101, and the only parking is along the shoulder highway. Motorized boats are allowed, so if you wish to avoid boats, jump over to nearby Crescent Lake, which is smaller and shallower, and has a motor boat ban. Fishing Lake Lytle At Lake Lytle, you’ll find a variety of fish, including white bass, perch, bullhead catfish, crappie, steelhead trout, rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, striped bass and brook trout. Your chances of getting a bite here are excellent whether you’re baitcasting, spinning or fly fishing. So grab your favorite fly fishing tackle and head to Lake Lytle. There are two distinct times of year Lake Lytle is known for: trout fishing in the spring and bass fishing in the summer months. Trout Fishing in Spring The best time to fish for trout in Lake Lytle is in the spring, when the hatchery has released rainbow trout into Lake Lytle. You can do well from the shore or from a boat, with spinners or bait – in the spring it probably doesn’t matter. Children will enjoy reeling one in after another. The best lures to use are small spinners, spoons, and flies. For bait, try using nightcrawlers, power bait, or minnows. If you’re fishing from a boat, trolling with spinners or spoons is usually the most successful method. If you’re fishing from the shore, try casting your line near likely trout hiding spots, such as undercut banks, log jams, and weed beds. Bass Fishing in the Summer The best time to fish for bass in Lake Lytle is in the summer months when the water has warmed up. The most successful method is to fish early in the morning or late in the evening, when the sun is not as intense. The best lures to use are plastic worms, spinner baits, and top-water lures. For live bait, try using nightcrawlers, minnows, or crayfish. As with trout fishing, the best spots to fish for bass are near undercut banks, log jams, and weed beds. You can also find bass near docks and submerged brush piles. TIP: Remember to get your Oregon fishing license before you go! You can purchase one online or at any sporting goods store.
