Pacific City Hiking Trails: Where to Trek On Your Pacific City Getaway!

Pacific City hikes are not to be taken lightly. From breathtaking vistas to meandering creeks and forests, these trails will make you feel like you’ve been transported to another world. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely stroll or an all-day adventure, Pacific City has plenty of options that are sure to take your breath away – and maybe even give you a few good stories to tell. Our 7 Favorite Hiking Trails Near Pacific City 1. Sitka Sedge Park The newest park in Oregon is an easy trail that takes you through a stunning forest and along the Sandlake Estuary. The parking lot is only a few miles north of Cape Kiwanda on Cape Kiwanda Drive (which is also known as Sandlake Road). On this trail, you’ll be able to observe some of the most diverse and abundant wildlife in the area. Birds are plentiful and include Bald eagles, Osprey, Great blue herons, and Red-tailed hawks. The Sitka Sedge State Natural Area is considered a bird hotspot. You also may spot wildlife such as elk, deer, and black-tailed deer while trekking this trail. 2. Cape Lookout State Park Located about 20 miles north of Pacific City on Three Capes Scenic Loop, this is a 7-mile out-and-back trail that takes you through beautiful forest and ultimately out to an ocean viewpoint. The views from Cape Lookout are spectacular, and the trail is relatively easy with some sections of the beach that can get a bit rocky. There are benches, picnic areas, and restrooms available in the area. Look out for some of Oregon’s incredible sea life such as whales, seals, porpoises, and more.  So don’t forget to bring your binoculars! Head out on this trail, take in the beautiful coastal views and explore! 3. Cascade Head Located approximately 17 miles south of Pacific City in Oregon, Cascade Head is a headland that covers about 270 acres. It was declared a UNESCO biosphere reserve in 1976 and is home to many plants and animals. The 6-mile Cascade Head Trail can get crowded at times, but offers stunning views. 4. Munson Creek Falls Trail Tucked away near Hwy. 101 on the road to Tillamook, Munson Creek Falls is a 319-foot tall multi-tiered waterfall. This short 0.5 mile hike through an old-growth forest is well worth it for the breathtaking views at the top, 100 feet above where you started. Munson Creek Falls is a must-see for any Oregon nature lover.  5. Whalen Island Around 5 miles north of Cape Kiwanda, you’ll find the Clay Myers State Natural Area. The easy 1.5-mile loop traverses through grassy areas, a forest, dunes, beaches, and mudflats. Whalen Island, the second-largest island in Oregon, is part of this beautiful park and home to many birds, animals, and plants. Make sure you bring your binoculars to spot the many species that call this area their home!  6. Netarts Spit Hike The 19-mile drive from Cape Kiwanda to Sandlake Road and then finally to Cape Lookout will take you to Netarts Spit. This spit is 5 miles long, narrow, made up of sand and vegetation, and forms Netarts Bay. The moderate hike is best done during low tide; however, there is a small fee for day use. 7. Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area The 1.0-mile loop near Cloverdale, Oregon is great for a hike or walk year-round—just be sure to bring a dog leash if you’re bringing Fido along! An average person can complete the moderately difficult route in 29 minutes, but it’s also popular among those who want to take their time and enjoy nature. Ready to Hit These Pacific City Hikes? Top 7 Things to Do in Pacific City, Oregon

Top 7 Things to Do, See, Eat & Drink at Pacific City Pacific City is beloved by locals and tourists alike. Once known primarily as a fishing and logging town, over time Pacific City has become a favorite vacation destination, thanks to its stunning Cape Kiwanda headland and its small but mighty offerings of good food and drinks. Planning your own stay at a Meredith Lodging Pacific City Vacation Rental? We have captured our shortlist of local favorites to help you make your PC (Pacific City) getaway one to remember. Here’s what to do in Pacific City: 1. Fuel up for your day’s activities at Stimulus Coffee + Bakery. This local-favorite café is known for their excellent coffee and delicious pastries, made fresh each day. Located across the street from the beach and an easy stroll from most Meredith Lodging Pacific City Vacation Rentals, Stimulus is the perfect way to start each day. Be sure to try the Cinnamon Bliss and the Beach Bun! 2. Walk the beach, hike the dune. For decades, families (especially kiddos!) have been hiking the sand dune at Cape Kiwanda as the ultimate way to get the wiggles out for everyone involved. Sitting at the north end of the beach, there is no specific trail, you just go straight up! This family-friendly activity rewards all who make it to the top with beautiful views and a photo opportunity that is sure to be a keeper. If an easier stroll is more your style, be sure to walk the length of the beach and explore Bob Straub State Park. The park includes the Nestucca Sand Spit and is bordered by the Nestucca River to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. 3. Pelican Brewing Company Pacific City You read that right! This oceanfront brewpub and restaurants has chairs in the sand – a favorite experience for visitors and locals. We love the Kiwanda Cream ale. With plenty of options on tap and comfort food to go along with it, everyone will find something to enjoy. Also, it’s an IDEAL place to watch the sun set behind Haystack Rock if you can snag a table in time. 4. Soup and sandwiches by the sea at Grateful Bread Bakery, Pacific City Make sure to make time for lunch at this delicious local favorite café. Known for their breakfast menu (those omelets!) and bread and baked goods, it is no surprise that their sandwiches are off the charts! We love their locally sourced Dory caught grilled cod sandwich with some minestrone soup. Or grab a bunch of sandwiches for the road before exploring Bob Straub State Park or Sand Lake. 5. Walking (or riding) on the moon at Sand Lake Recreation Area. While this vast recreation area is popular with Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) riders it also contains a lovely estuary to explore. The white sand beaches and rocky landscapes make locals refer to walking on the moon when visiting. Just a short drive from your Meredith Lodging Pacific City vacation rental, Sand Lake is a wonderful day-trip activity. 6. Nestucca Bay National Wildlife Refuge Unplug from your phone and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature by visiting Nestucca Bay National Wildlife Refuge. With picturesque views of the Pacific Ocean, it’s perfect for hikes or birdwatching. You might even see some wildlife, like waterfowl, deer, bear, songbirds, amphibians, salmon or trout! 7. Plan a Cozy Getaway to a Pacific City

Pacific City, OR is an absolute jewel of a beach town, north of Lincoln City and South of Manzanita, on a stunning stretch of coastline overlooking its famous Haystack Rock and the Cape Kiwanda Headland. Known amongst generations of Oregonians as a quaint fishing town famous for launching Dory Boats off the main beach, Pacific City has blossomed to include a small-but-mighty “town center” that includes a great coffee shop, popular post-surf taco stand, a grocer to gather supplies (and ice cream!), an upscale ocean view restaurant and bar and a beloved beachfront brewpub where you can drink craft beer with your feet in the sand as you watch the sunset. A stay at a Meredith Lodging Pacific City vacation rental puts you in walking distance of all that this beautiful town has to offer. The unique geography of Pacific City is another thing you will notice when you check-in to your Pacific City vacation rental. It is incredibly unique to have a large river (The Big Nestucca) hug the ocean shoreline so closely and so close to another large river (The Little Nestucca). These rivers near the sea all come together to create a habitat and estuary that attracts all kinds of flora and fauna specific to the Oregon Coast. Wondering what else there is to do when you book a stay in a Meredith Lodging Pacific City vacation rental? We have put together go-to favorites for a weekend spent in one of the best places on the Oregon Coast: Start your day with local coffee and a pastry (or chia pudding!) at Stimulus Coffee + Bakery A hike up the dune of Cape Kiwanda is an exercise-burner the whole family will love, and the view from the top is worth the work! Looking for a less breathless stroll the along the beach? Try a wander along the beautiful sand spit of Bob Straub State park on the South end of town Love to fish? Pacific City delivers opportunities for ocean fishing and river fishing – and we love to visit the “trout-stuffed” Town Lake for an outing with the kiddos. After a day of adventure, there is nothing like ending the day watching the sunset colors change over Haystack Rock – and for beer lovers, we suggest you grab a chair in the sand at the Pelican Pub. View all Meredith Lodging Pacific City vacation rentals. Pacific City is a gem of the Oregon Coast, and we look forward to welcoming you on your next getaway!
