Steelhead Falls Trail in the Deschutes River Canyon

Descend into the Deschutes River Canyon on the 2-mile out and back trail leading to Steelhead Falls. While the hike may be challenging, the waterfalls offer a rewarding cooldown for the adventurous! With multiple heights to jump from varying up to 20 ft, and the steep hike down to the river, this adventure is only recommended for the more physically active in your group.

Reviews of Steelhead Falls

“This hike is listed as easy. And it is easy if you are a family/person who hikes. It has elevation change and can be a bit slippery because the ground is sandy, but nothing to think much about if you are relatively fit or have hiked, ever. The views and geology are amazing. The river is a beautiful emerald color. There are nests and lots of wild flowers. It’s a beautiful hike and my family would highly recommend it.”

Laura Monfrooe Hoffman

“My favorite stop! The trail is short but beautiful and lots to see right along the river. The waterfall is breathtaking!! We spent an hour just watching it, snacking, taking pictures, and enjoying each other’s company. Not busy at all on a Sunday morning. Would love to see it in the summer when people are jumping off the falls!”

Ashley Thompson

“Steelhead Falls is such a gorgeous isolated spot on the Deschutes. A quick hike leads you to the stunning waterfalls. Then an even shorter trek further down the trail leads you to some great swimming spots.”
