Ski And Stay in Bend at Mt. Bachelor Village by Meredith Lodging Winter is a wonderful time of year in Central Oregon! The mountain tops are blanketed with snow and the winter sport community awakes each morning with growing excitement– ski season is here at last! When seeking a destination for exhilarating winter recreation, Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort is the place to be. Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort is an excellent destination for snowboarding or alpine-style (downhill) skiing. It rates consistently as the top PNW ski resort. There are two primary points that make this ski resort extra special. One is that Mt. Bachelor is categorized as a volcano (and an active one at that!). The last eruption was about 9,500 years ago, so this should not be a cause for concern. Secondly, when the weather allows, you can ride the Summit chairlift to the top of the mountain and take your pick of 360 degrees of ski route options! For a challenging route, hit the terrain on the back of the mountain (when conditions allow). Chutes and a cat track provide lots of diversity as you make your way down to the Cloudchaser lift to the East or the Northwest lift to the West. Always exercise caution, especially on a challenging route. The backside of the mountain is considered backcountry terrain and should only be navigated by expert-level snowboarders or skiers. This ski resort has 16 different chairlifts and 12 of the lifts have chairs that hold four passengers and run at high speeds. There are also three different lodges available. Two of the lodges are located at the base of Mt. Bachelor and one is situated midway up the mountain (a luxurious addition!). Most of the mountain will fit intermediate and beginner skill levels (in addition to the more challenging options). There is a multitude of meandering groomed trails, outstanding ski runs through the trees, and plenty of great powder. There is something for everyone at every skill level – the whole family is sure to have a blast! And what if alpine skiing is not your preference? There are plenty of fantastic cross-country trails for all skill ranges. Want to enjoy the mountain like a local? Wake up as early as possible to beat the rush! A single-lane road creates quite the traffic jam for those who did not rise before opening time at the mountain. Take your breakfast and coffee to go and enjoy watching the ski operations open for the day. Then, you just might have a few fresh runs all to yourself!
Top Five Upgrades Vacation Home Owners Can Make that Guests Love – Central Oregon Edition! Vacationers looking to book Central Oregon Vacation Rentals have more choices than ever, and a home’s first impression (usually made online) is crucial to that home’s success. Meredith Lodging believes in truly partnering with our Oregon Vacation Home owners to help make their homes as successful as possible. We even employ an in-house design team who is constantly keeping an eye on what home features Guests look out for the most, and sharing that information with our Owners. We have put together a short-list of the smartest upgrades you can make to your Sunriver or Bend vacation home that will give you the most “bang-for-the-buck” when it comes to attracting guests. TV’s and Technology Modern, flatscreen televisions make every home look modern and up-to-date – and old school giant TV’s have the opposite effect. This is a cost-effective upgrade that guests really notice and look for when booking online. Updated TV’s also make it easy to add TV-related extras that Guests love – such as Netflix, Hulu and the ability to set up an Xbox for the kids. Beds and Bedding Guests want to feel wrapped in luxury on vacation, and a cozy bed is a great way to make a great impression on your guests. If a vacation rental has rave reviews that mention comfortable beds and luxury bedding, potential guests take note. Time and time again we have guests get down to choosing between two houses, and quality beds, luxury linens and plush pillows will get the booking every time. This is an investment that pays immediate and significant dividends. Outdoor Furniture/BBQ Outdoor living is a big deal in Oregon, and especially in Central Oregon, where the sun shines much of the year. Investing in inviting Outdoor dining and lounge furniture, as well as a nice BBQ is the kind of extra that really draws Guests to your home. Outdoor living also greatly extends the living and gathering space of your home, too. One thing to always remember when choosing outdoor furniture? Make sure your table and/or seating offers enough seats for the number of Guests your home sleeps – your Guests will appreciate it and their reviews will reflect it! Everybody into the Pool – or Hot Tub Is your Central Oregon vacation home in a neighborhood that offers access to a community pool or recreation area? For example, in Sunriver, home owners may have access to the SHARC – and Meredith Lodging will pay for your yearly pool passes! Guests LOVE pool access. And if you can provide some approved pool toys and some extra-large pool towels, all the better. No pool access available? A Hot Tub is a great investment and the single-most asked for amenity from Meredith Lodging Guests. Central Oregon – Themed Extras Family vacations in Bend and Sunriver are all about getting outside and when you stock your home with equipment to help them enjoy the outdoors, Guests remember! A great first step is offering bikes for both kiddos and adults. If you want to offer more, consider adding in some seasonal fun – a canoe or innertubes for floating the river…or sleds and snowshoes for having fun in the snow. We can help you showcase these extras in your online listing and help your home truly stand out. Meredith Lodging can help you identify all the ways we can work together to make your home stand out from the rest, when it comes to appealing to Guests. Our in-house Design and Owner Support Teams will work with you to help make your home more successful than ever. Ready to get started? Reach out to your Owner Experience Team to get started.

We unpacked as the sun came out – and once we realized we were going to have full sun for the rest of the evening, we cancelled our reservations for dinner our in Lincoln City and instead my husband made the quick run to Barnacle Bill’s Seafood Market for some fresh Dungeness crab, salt and pepper prawns and smoked salmon. Oceanfront seafood picnic for two, please! While my husband was away getting dinner, I unpacked and settled into the undeniable luxury of Sand Dollar. This cozy space literally has everything you could ever want for a perfect weekend away… from the aforementioned fine furnishings to a spa-like shower, impressive little kitchen and luxury linens atop the coziest beds. Most of all the sounds of the ocean outside your door and the views out the window…it’s impossible not to feel like you have arrived someplace truly special. I felt like I have left the chaos of the workweek behind and stepped into the pages of some perfectly curated “Weekend Away” magazine. The door opening downstairs let me know dinner had arrived and it was time to set up for sunset. We took our pup out for a romp on the oceanfront grassy yard and realized maybe the only thing happier than a dog on the beach is a dog with a front yard on the beach! We moved our perfectly-weathered and very comfortable deck chairs and side tables to the lawn, grabbed a beach blanket form the well-stocked cedar chest and settled in for a sunset seafood feast. What is it about having the time to watch the sun drop all the way into the sea that makes time seem to actually slow down a bit? As we washed our delicious seafood, cocktail sauce and saltine cracker feast down with some champagne, we had just enough left to raise a glass to the spectacular sunset and our good luck. Off to bed upstairs on the king-size extra comfortable bed and Belgian linen bedding and the cozy dog bed we brought along with us and the three of us were asleep in no time. The next morning, I had no expectations of good weather after we were treated to a late season sunset the night before. I woke up just before sunrise and realized that Roads End beach was starting to be awash in color. The tide had left behind perfect pools of water that were now reflecting pink and gold. I remembered why people say there is nothing quite like being oceanfront – it’s like the best movie in the world playing out before you all day. We fired up some local favorite Left Coast Coffee in the coffee maker and watched the sunrise show for a bit before we headed out for a beach stroll with the pup and to have a look for the famous “Finders Keepers” glass floats. Local glass-blowing artists hide glass floats year-round in Lincoln City – and if you are lucky enough to find one, its. yours for the taking. We struck out on the glass floats, but struck lucky when we headed back home to watch the beach come to life from our cozy Sand Dollar perch…outside it was sunny and cold and inside it was all about getting cozy with a side of ocean waves. After a lazy morning, we decided we should venture out at least a bit and headed to Blackfish Cafe for lunch (the place we were supposed to go the night before). We love this charming café, located right along Hwy 101 as you head south through town. While I have never had a bad meal here, what keeps me coming back is the salmon Caesar salad…the best I have ever had! Feeling energized we headed to another favorite local stop – Scout Northwest Trading Company. This well curated collection has something for everyone from outdoor gear, to local foods and cute clothing – but today we were here for a very important purchase – our first Yeti cooler. If you are in the market for anything Yeti, Scout is the place to go – they have one of the best selections of coolers, tumblers and camp cups we have seen! After a lot of looking we quickly settled on a Yeti Roadie and headed home to Sand Dollar. We were treated to another spectacular sunset and took that as a sign that we were simply not supposed to leave this magical little cabin for the rest of the weekend – and chose to spend out the rest of the weekend right there. From frequent strolls with our pup on Roads End Beach to cooking locally-caught fish in the well-equipped kitchen, to toasting the sunset from our deck and raising a cup of coffee to the sunrise…Meredith Lodging’s pet-friendly Sand Dollar home is one of the most magical places we have ever stayed. We can’t wait to check-in to Sand Dollar again soon!
Yachats (pronounced YA-hots, for those in the know!) calls itself the Gem of the Oregon Coast, and it’s easy to see why. Blessed with a dramatic, rocky coastline and the picturesque estuary of the Yachats River, this small town gives you easy access to surf and sand. The headlands to the north, including the astonishing Cape Perpetua, have more scenic stops per mile than most anywhere on the coast, with churning chasms, spouting horns, sea caves, old-growth trees and basalt cliffs that plunge into the sea. Yachats is an excellent place to station yourself for coastal exploration, but it’s also worth exploring in its own right. Meredith Lodging Yachats Vacation rentals provide the perfect home-base while exploring all that this extra-special part of the Oregon Coast has to offer.Despite the town’s small size, delicious food and interesting eateries abound. For coffee, treats, breakfast or lunch, you’ll want to head to the Green Salmon, an intriguing coffee house right on Highway 101. There you’ll find sustainable practices and delicious fair-trade coffee and tea, home-made baked goods, soups and sandwiches and lots of locals meeting up. You’ll also want to try Bread and Roses, located down a side street beside the Yachats Commons and near a terrific kids’ playground. It also features locally sourced and fair trade food and drink, including breads made in the Bread and Roses oven.Another spot that prides itself on healthy, local food (and beer brewed on the premises) is Yachats Brewing Company, which serves beers, ciders, wines and a choice local-foods menu for lunch and dinner. They also make fermented foods on site and have a small gardening and cooking bookstore. There’s more eating to be done: try the Drift Inn, a bustling and tasty restaurant popular with locals and visitors alike. You’ll enjoy nightly live music along with a delicious pizza or seafood dinner and access to a full bar. Ona, a seafood restaurant that hugs the Yachats River estuary with ocean views, is an elegant choice. You might also like to try Luna Sea Fish House, a restaurant that features the day’s catch: the owners are a Yachats fishing family. Want something especially family friendly? LeRoy’s Blue Whale has served breakfast, lunch and dinner in Yachats since 1980.Yachats has small shops fun for browsing, including Judith’s Kitchen Tools, Planet Yachats for rocks and gems, Toad Hall for gifts, and many more. You can visit all of those shops and eateries on foot—Yachats is small. It’s worth walking through the town’s streets to see its sweet coastal homes and gardens. Walking the rocky coastline is easy if you catch the 804 Trail, which takes you from the estuary north for 1.7 miles. You’re likely to spot seabirds, seals, herons and gulls and plenty of gorgeous surf crashing on the rocks.A getaway to Yachats is a great idea any time of year. This gem of a beach town truly offers something for everyone, from breathtaking views at Cape Perpetua, to beautiful beaches perfect for strolling, to a charming town full of restaurants and shops to explore. Meredith Lodging is proud to announce a recent article on OregonBusiness.com. This in-depth feature highlights our success and the core of who we are. From the beginning, we’ve combined our property management expertise with exceptional hospitality standards. We’ve always placed the needs of our owners, guests, and employees above all else. We’re happy to see where this standard has taken us over the past few years. Our future is bright. Thanks to all of our owners, guests, and employees who have helped make it happen. Here are some highlights from the article. Placing Our Owners First We’ve always had an “owner-first” philosophy. By partnering with our owners to take impeccable care of their homes, investing in the teams and technology to keep their homes well cared-for, and effectively marketing to renters, we’ve helped Oregon property owners maximize the value of their investment. Superior Guest Service When you walk into one of our vacation homes, you’re treated to a 5-star experience. And our focus has been on continually improving our guest experience. First and foremost, we take care of people by offering a local presence. Our guests love that we handle issues on the spot and provide insightful recommendations on homes, restaurants, and activities. We work hard to provide our guests with an extraordinary Oregon vacation. Local Oregon Teams One of our core tenets is, “property management is best done locally.” That’s why we have fully-staffed physical offices in the markets where our owners have homes and in the communities where our employees live and work. Our teams are an integral part of our success. Recognizing hard work and giving employees opportunities to succeed has manifested into excellent service to our owners and guests. Ultimately, we want people to know that we are here to stay. Our boots-on-the-ground mentality shows that we care deeply about our communities and are committed to investing in their success. Giving Back to Our Communities Supporting our communities is fundamental to who we are. We support charitable organizations and causes, especially ones focusing on child education and development, veteran support, and those that provide aid to stray animals and animal shelters. Privately Held and Family-Run We pride ourselves on being privately held and family-run. When making decisions for our owners, guests, or employees, we don’t have to appease a larger corporate structure and we have no interest in flipping our business or aiming for an IPO. For us, “family-run” extends beyond ownership and helps foster a familial internal culture. Many of the company’s employees, including our owners, Jon and Meredith Oksenholt, have deep family roots along the Oregon coast and in Central Oregon that go back generations. The Oksenholts Connect with Meredith Lodging Thanks for learning more about Meredith Lodging. For more information, check out the article on OregonBusiness.com. Read the Full Article

About the Lighthouse Did you know that the Yaquina Head Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in Oregon? At a whopping 93 feet, it is a spectacular sight to behold. Over 370,000 bricks were used to build the structure, which was completed in the late 1800’s. The light has been active since 1873, when the days of oil burning wicks were commonplace. Located at the westernmost point of the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area, the lighthouse has withstood the test of weather and time. Now, there is a fully automated Fresnel lens that flashes 24 hours a day, guiding ships safely past the rugged Oregon coastline.
