Winter in Seaside, Oregon Offers Outdoor Adventures

Winter in Seaside, Oregon Offers Outdoor Adventures

Seaside Oregon – The Beach Is Less Than 2 Hours From Portland The historic town of Seaside Oregon is at the end of the Oregon Trail, and today is a short drive from the Portland metro area. An easy and comfortable place to relax and reconnect with nature, Seaside has something to offer everyone’s interest and abilities. Winter In Seaside Oregon Is Outdoorsy Too If you think the beach is just for summer, you are missing out on half the fun! Winter on the Oregon Coast is both exciting and cozy, with a fraction of the crowds that make summer so crowded. Outdoor experiences include beachcombing, clamming and crabbing, and wildlife watching. Seaside Has a Secret! (not too secret) This is a GREAT place to collect sand dollars! No one is sure exactly why, but Seaside Oregon is home to thousands of sand dollars, who leave behind their distinct skeletons when they depart. It’s a bit of a walk, but heading to the secluded beaches just south or north of the mouth of the Necanicum River means you’ll have the best choice of sea souvenirs. You’ll recognize the ones that are OK to collect because they are bleached out grey or white. Sand dollars that are purplish or fuzzy looking are still alive! Please leave them to finish their lives in the wild. Clamming and Crabbing for Your Supper Chances are, you’ve never been clamming or crabbing, Oregon-style. You really should give it a try! Foraging for your food is easy on the north Oregon Coast. Our local beaches account for 95% of Oregon’s razor clam harvest; the densest razor clam population in the state is in Seaside. Digging them is a fun activity for all ages in most weather and is a popular Oregon coast activity. Crabbing in the Necanicum estuary is open year ‘round. The 12th Ave bridge is a popular spot to stop and chat with other fisherfolk for ideas, inspiration or tall tales if you can’t participate. Make sure you get the right fishing permit, short stay ones are available, and find the gear for your foraging dreams. You can get these at Trucke’s 1-Stop or Rite Aid in Seaside or Bud’s Campground & Grocery in Gearhart. Wandering Wildlife of the North Coast The Roosevelt elk that live on Oregon’s north coast have discovered good summer eating in the gardens of our coastal towns but they head for the foothills in the late fall. For winter wildlife viewing, take a side trip from your Seaside stay to visit the Jewell Meadows Wildlife Area in the scenic Coast Range. This winter feeding station offers excellent viewing of up to 200 elk. Elk feeding tours are offered from December through February (reservations required, 503-755-2264) but you can see them in the area November – April. There’s an amazing array of wildlife living in the area if you miss the elk – Bald Eagles, Red Tailed Hawks, Owls, Coyotes, Bobcats, Weasels, River otters, Beaver, Stellar’s Jay and their forest friends. The site is ADA accessible, and has a picnic area and restrooms. Some parking areas require a permit; ask the ranger. Winter in Seaside has plenty of adventure to offer; try it out in the un-summer! Whale Watching: No Depoe Bay Boats Oregon’s Whale Watching Week returns in person this winter! Trained volunteers meet at 17 designated Whale Watching sites along the coast to help you spot the spouts, tails and flukes of the migrating gray whales from December 28 – Jan 1. (10 a.m. to 1 p.m daily). Look for the Whale Watching Spoken Here signs along the high promontories along the north coast where Oregon State Parks volunteers can guide your viewing. The north coast headlands let you view farther out to sea than a Depoe Bay boat. Mild Average Temps Make Getting Outside Fun DYK? The Oregon Coast’s temperatures are surprisingly mild in winter, with average highs in the 50s and average lows above freezing. The trick to a comfortable visit to Seaside in winter is layers; wear layers and add and subtract throughout the day. A rain layer is practical and recommended but sweatshirts and jackets are enough for most folks. Our Beach Vacation Rentals Make Travel So Comfortable! Make your vacation special with a stay at one of our Seaside Oregon vacation rentals. With room for everyone to spread out, keeping your own schedules, it’s more comfortable to coordinate meals, golf games and beach excursions from one cozy location. Solo travelers and couples appreciate the privacy and comfort of their own vacation rentals, too!

Our 7 Favorite Hiking Trails Near Pacific City 1. Sitka Sedge Park The newest park in Oregon is an easy trail that takes you through a stunning forest and along the Sandlake Estuary. The parking lot is only a few miles north of Cape Kiwanda on Cape Kiwanda Drive (which is also known as Sandlake Road). On this trail, you’ll be able to observe some of the most diverse and abundant wildlife in the area. Birds are plentiful and include Bald eagles, Osprey, Great blue herons, and Red-tailed hawks. The Sitka Sedge State Natural Area is considered a bird hotspot. You also may spot wildlife such as elk, deer, and black-tailed deer while trekking this trail. 2. Cape Lookout State Park Located about 20 miles north of Pacific City on Three Capes Scenic Loop, this is a 7-mile out-and-back trail that takes you through beautiful forest and ultimately out to an ocean viewpoint. The views from Cape Lookout are spectacular, and the trail is relatively easy with some sections of the beach that can get a bit rocky. There are benches, picnic areas, and restrooms available in the area. Look out for some of Oregon’s incredible sea life such as whales, seals, porpoises, and more.  So don’t forget to bring your binoculars! Head out on this trail, take in the beautiful coastal views and explore! 3. Cascade Head Located approximately 17 miles south of Pacific City in Oregon, Cascade Head is a headland that covers about 270 acres. It was declared a UNESCO biosphere reserve in 1976 and is home to many plants and animals. The 6-mile Cascade Head Trail can get crowded at times, but offers stunning views. 4. Munson Creek Falls Trail Tucked away near Hwy. 101 on the road to Tillamook, Munson Creek Falls is a 319-foot tall multi-tiered waterfall. This short 0.5 mile hike through an old-growth forest is well worth it for the breathtaking views at the top, 100 feet above where you started. Munson Creek Falls is a must-see for any Oregon nature lover.  5. Whalen Island Around 5 miles north of Cape Kiwanda, you’ll find the Clay Myers State Natural Area. The easy 1.5-mile loop traverses through grassy areas, a forest, dunes, beaches, and mudflats. Whalen Island, the second-largest island in Oregon, is part of this beautiful park and home to many birds, animals, and plants. Make sure you bring your binoculars to spot the many species that call this area their home!  6. Netarts Spit Hike The 19-mile drive from Cape Kiwanda to Sandlake Road and then finally to Cape Lookout will take you to Netarts Spit. This spit is 5 miles long, narrow, made up of sand and vegetation, and forms Netarts Bay. The moderate hike is best done during low tide; however, there is a small fee for day use. 7. Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area The 1.0-mile loop near Cloverdale, Oregon is great for a hike or walk year-round—just be sure to bring a dog leash if you’re bringing Fido along! An average person can complete the moderately difficult route in 29 minutes, but it’s also popular among those who want to take their time and enjoy nature. Ready to Hit These Pacific City Hikes? Vacation Rental Kitchen Upgrades Guests Love

They say that everyone always ends up in the kitchen at a party…it is the natural gathering place of every home, including a vacation rental. And making sure your kitchen is well-appointed is a wonderful way to garner rave reviews and repeat guests for your vacation rental. How can you make your vacation rental’s kitchen one that keeps guests coming back again and again? We’ve captured the kitchen upgrades guests rave about the most:  Invest in high-end and new major appliances for your vacation rental Think of a gleaming stainless steel chef’s oven and stove, a sleek refrigerator, a silent dishwasher. Choosing an item of this quality will not only earn your kitchen rave reviews, the appliances will last much longer, too.  Good coffee = great vacation! Guests love it when it is easy and fun to make that perfect cup of coffee in the morning. Popular additions in this area include Nespresso machines, French press or pour over options, or a high end (but automatic and easy to use) espresso machine. A solid coffee maker is always popular, too, especially one that grinds the beans fresh for each pot.  Make small appliance choices guests love in your kitchen vacation rental design Small appliances can be a real treat to guests staying in your home. The list of most popular items includes an electric griddle for pancakes in the morning, a toaster oven, a blender strong enough to make smoothies and margaritas, a crockpot for warm chili après ski, a good hand mixer or stand mixer for baking cookies, and a small food chopper.  Make sure your kitchen is well-equipped for chefs, bakers, and merry makers Choose high quality pots and pans that will last for several years or longer…guests who love to cook will rave about them in reviews! Offer your guests a quality knife block, well-made knives, and a sharpener…so many homes have dull knives! Make sure you have high quality bakeware and utensils, too…investing in these pieces will delight your guests and save you money in the long run. Be sure to include several platters and serving pieces so your guest can create memorable celebrations and meals while staying in your home.   Don’t forget the drink part of eat, drink and be merry Drinkware is so important…and homes that get the best reviews have plenty of quality drinkware for their guests to enjoy. Offer twice as many well-made coffee mugs as your house requires (and even a few thermal mugs so guests can hit the slopes or stroll on the beach with their morning cuppa). Offer lots of low ball and highball glasses for water, juice, or cocktails. And make sure to have lots of wine glasses, too…and a few different varieties for reds and whites. Investing a small amount in extra drinkware can result in a big return when it comes to reviews or repeat bookings.  Ready to take your kitchen to the next level? Investing in a Vacation Rental Property – The Pros and Cons

To Invest in Vacation Rentals or Not – that is the question! So, you’re considering investing in real estate and want to know if purchasing a vacation home is a good investment or not. There are many factors to consider when making this decision, and there is no easy answer. However, in general, if you purchase a vacation home in a desirable location and rent it out when you’re not using it, it can be a good investment. According to AirDNA, a company that analyzes the performance of over 10 million Airbnb and Vrbo rentals, the average annual revenue of short-term vacation rentals reached the highest level ever recorded at $56,000 at the end of 2021. In addition, the same study forecasts that demand will grow another 14.1% in 2022 over levels seen in 2021. Of course, there are also risks associated with vacation rental properties. For example, if the market for vacation rentals in your area diminishes, you may have trouble finding renters and may even end up losing money on the property. Before making a decision, it’s important to do your research and weigh all the potential risks and rewards. In addition, consult with a vacation rental management company to see how they can mitigate risks and maximize rewards. The Pros: Benefits of Investing in Vacation Rentals First, let’s cover the potential benefits of investing in a vacation rental property. Extra income The most obvious benefit of owning a vacation rental is the extra income it can generate. If you purchase a property in a popular vacation destination and rent it out when you’re not using it, you can cover the cost of the property and even make a profit. Tax benefits Another benefit of using your home as a rental is the tax breaks for which you may be eligible. For example, in the United States, you can deduct mortgage interest and property taxes on your vacation rental. But, one thing to take note of, however, is that those tax deductions are subject to the 14-day rule, which is a statute in tax law that limits the amount of time you as an owner can spend in your vacation property while still claiming it as a rental property. Appreciation Another potential benefit of investing in vacation rentals is appreciation. Just like any other type of real estate, vacation rentals can increase in value over time. That is especially true if you’re investing in a property in which the market demand is growing. If you purchase a property in an area with strong future growth prospects, you could see a significant return on your investment when you sell the property down the road. Less Risk During Recessions For a number of reasons, house rentals in domestic leisure destinations have historically done well during recessions. During a recession, drive-to leisure pursuits near major cities benefit as travelers choose more affordable family travel and provide a budget-friendly alternative to overseas travel.  The Cons: Risks of Investing in Vacation Rentals (and Some Solutions!) Now that we’ve covered the potential benefits of investing in vacation rentals, let’s take a look at some of the risks. Up-front costs One of the biggest risks of investing in vacation rentals is the up-front cost. Not only do you have to come up with a down payment on the property, but you also have to pay for any necessary repairs or renovations. In addition, if you’re planning on furnishing the property, that will add to your up-front costs. And, if you’re not paying cash for the property, you’ll also have to factor in mortgage payments. All of these costs can add up quickly and put a strain on your finances. Potential Solutions to Offset Risks Associated with Up-front Costs Some vacation rental management companies, like Meredith Lodging, offer sign-on bonuses that mitigate the financial strain of getting your home vacation-rental-ready.Look into different kinds of loans, like rehab loans, that can help you make the necessary upgrades to your property without breaking the bank.Research government grants and tax breaks that may be available to you as a vacation rental owner. If you are looking at purchasing a vacation rental, look for homes that are existing rental history and already come furnished. Upkeep and maintenance One of the biggest risks of owning a vacation rental property is the responsibility for upkeep and maintenance. Unlike traditional rental properties, which are typically leased to long-term tenants, vacation rentals are often rented out for short periods of time. That means you need to do more frequent cleanings and repairs between renters.  Here is a list of the expenses associated with running a vacation rental: UtilitiesLawn careConsumablesExtra linens and towels (Meredith Lodging offers a linen program)InsuranceRepairsHosting fees (for OTAs, such as Airbnb and Vrbo) Additionally, if something breaks while a renter is staying on your property, you may be responsible for the repair costs. If you don’t have the time to keep up with the maintenance of your property, or if you live far away from your rental, you may want to consider hiring a professional vacation rental management company. A good vacation rental management company will take care of all the details for you, including marketing, bookings, housekeeping, and repairs. Potential Solutions to Risks Associated with Upkeep and Maintenance Hire a professional vacation rental management companyTake advantage of preventive maintenanceEnroll in a home warranty program Legal issues Another risk to consider when investing in vacation rentals is the potential for legal issues. There are a number of regulations and laws that vacation rental owners need to be aware of, including zoning laws, occupancy limits, noise ordinances, and tax laws. If you’re not familiar with the laws in your area, you could find yourself in violation of them and facing costly fines. Potential Solutions to Risks Associated with Legal Issues Research the vacation rental laws in your areaPurchase liability insuranceEnsure that your property is up to code Seasonality of Vacation Another risk to consider is seasonality. In many cases, demand for vacation

How to Make Money on a Vacation Rental Property + Investment

Owning a vacation rental property can be an excellent source of additional income; however, there are a lot of factors to consider before making such a big investment.   Whether you are looking to invest in a rental property or interested in renting your own vacation home which can help offset monthly expenses (mortgage, utilities, HOA fees) this blog can help answer some of your initial questions about what it takes to create a profitable rental property.  How Do You Make Money with a Vacation Rental Property?  Do Your Research: Know your market – Learn as much as you can about the vacation rental industry, and what renters are looking for in your market. Depending on the location of your home, certain types of vacation rentals may be more in-demand. For example, beach cottages, cozy mountain cabins, modern condos or townhouses, ocean-front villas, lake view luxury homes, etc.   Location, location, location Homes that are near popular attractions (ski slopes, the beach or lake, local points of attraction) are great choices for an investment property.   Size Larger homes with more bedrooms and bathrooms typically correlate to higher nightly rates.  Seasonal appeal You’ll see a better return on investment if you choose a destination location that is accessible and desirable year-round. This could be due to weather (like Palm Springs), or seasonal activities (Central Oregon).  Regulations Check on local city, county, and HOA (homeowner association) ordinances about vacation rentals. Some regulations limit the maximum number of guests, impose strict parking restrictions, or simply outlaw short-term rentals.  Consider a Vacation Rental Management Company  We understand there are many factors when deciding to invest in a vacation rental property, and everyone has their own reasons – whether an alternative source of income, or a second home to enjoy with friends and family on holidays and vacations. Whatever your motivation, a vacation rental management company can help guide you through the vacation rental process, offer assistance with monthly reporting, tax forms, pricing analysis, increase your visibility through strategic marketing and advertising, and partner with you to maximize your investment.  At Meredith Lodging, we pride ourselves on our owner-first business model, and work tirelessly to provide attentive care to our Owners and their valued home. We guarantee our industry-leading experience and market knowledge will help maximize your profitability.  What kind of amenities should you make an investment in?  Guests typically search for certain amenities more than others, so you’ll improve your home’s visibility and profitability by offering these perks:  Welcome pets – Our data shows that properties that allow pets earn an average of 8–12% more revenue than those that don’t. We also recommend making your home truly pet-friendly by providing designated water/food bowls, a spare leash, waste bags, etc.   Add a hot tub – This is especially true for homes with ocean or lake front views, or homes located in colder climates.  Provide WiFi – Internet access is a basic expectation of guests today, and you may miss out on bookings if you don’t provide it. If your home is too secluded to offer WiFi, we recommend marketing your home in the property description as a lovely place to relax, unplug, and recharge.   Other amenities that guests look for and value in a vacation rental:   Fully equipped kitchens Smart TVs with streaming services Bikes, pool tables, foosball, darts, board games Plush towels & high-end bedding Smart mattresses  Find a Vacation Rental Insurance Provider   Your rental property is an important asset and investment. Protecting your valued property from any future damage or unforeseen losses should be a top priority.   We recommend contacting your personal insurance provider to explore homeowner or landlord insurance options best suited for your vacation rental property.  List Your Property on Airbnb, Vrbo, and Other OTAs  Listing your property on OTAs (online travel agencies) such as Airbnb, and VRBO expands your visibility and market reach.   Provide a detailed description of your home as well as updated photos highlighting your home’s best features (ocean views, spacious gathering areas, hot tub, chef-style kitchen, etc.   Meredith Lodging will promote your home across multiple platforms and third-party websites using SEO-enhanced home descriptions, and professional and high-definition photos and 3-D tours (when applicable). These marketing techniques result in a higher booking rate.  Know Your Tax Benefits   You’re Running a Vacation Rental Business, So Use the Tax Benefits   When it comes to making money with your vacation rental, it’s important to understand the tax deductions you can claim as a vacation rental homeowner.  According to the IRS, you can deduct “ordinary and necessary expenses” related to your rental property, including advertising, cleaning and repairs, insurance, mortgage interest (depending on your state), professional services (like CPAs or accountants and lawyers), rent collected, supplies, taxes, travel expenses, and utility bills.  As a vacation rental homeowner, you can deduct a wide variety of expenses from your federal taxes. These deductions can help offset the costs of owning and operating your rental property, making it more profitable in the long run.  In addition, property management fees are another deductible expense. By working with a property management company like Meredith Lodging, you can maximize your deductions while also having all the help you need to maximize your profit.  Know Who Will Be Cleaning & Maintaining Your Vacation Rental Between Stays  Whether you are cleaning your vacation rental between stays, or hiring your own cleaning personnel, we recommend creating a check-list to guarantee thorough cleanliness and consistency.   Meredith Lodging prides ourselves on taking exemplary care of your valued investment by investing in our staff. Our employees undergo a full background check and extensive training, and each home undergoes a walk-through pre-check-in and post check-out inspection to ensure our standards of safety, quality and cleanliness are being upheld.  Ultimately, successfully managing a vacation rental can take a lot of work. It is up to you to determine how involved you want to be. If you would rather enjoy a profitable income without the operational headache, you may want to consider partnering with a vacation rental management company.

Crabbing on the Oregon Coast

Crabbing on the Oregon Coast

Oregon Crab, Anyone? Some locals may say that a trip to the Oregon Coast is not complete without going crabbing! Easy, fun and oh so rewarding (fresh crab!), come see why crabbing is a favorite coastal pastime.  When to Go Crabbing  Crabbing is legal and open year-round on the Oregon Coast, but September through December is the best time to go.  Crabs prefer calmer water as there is less of a current to fight against during high or low tides, so the ideal time of day is at peak high or low tide. Check local tide tables for conditions.  Catch Dungeness Crab Using Pots or Rings  The most popular way to crab on the Oregon Coast is with a crab ring or pot right off a dock or pier. Crab rings are collapsible baskets attached to a long line, whereas crab pots are similar to cages with an entrance that lets crabs in, but not out.   Bait the pots or rings, tie them off the dock, toss into the water, and let soak for 15 to 30 minutes. When the time is up, pull up the pot or ring, and check if you caught anything.   Tip – If using a ring, it is important to pull it up quickly, so the crabs can’t escape.   You can purchase rings or pods from local tackle shops or sporting-goods stores, or rent equipment from various local marinas. Many offer crabbing packages that include baited rings, buckets, gloves, and a measuring gauge.   Looking for a Little More Guidance?  Stop by Kelly’s Brighton Marina where you can rent a boat and head out into Nehalem Bay, or toss a trap right off their dock. The friendly crew will even show you how to clean and cook your catch of the day, so you can enjoy fresh crab from their scenic marina picnic area.   If you are planning on having a crab feast back at your cozy vacation rental, store your crabs in a cooler or a bucket filled with water or ice. When ready to eat, boil the crabs in a large pot of salted water for 18-20 minutes, then remove the gills and viscera. Serve with some melted butter, and enjoy!  Read the Rules and Regulations for Catching Crab Oregon requires a shellfish license for harvesting crabs, clams, or other shellfish. Most fishing and crabbing businesses will also sell licenses. Once you have the license, it’s good for one year.  Most of your crabbing on the Oregon Coast will be for Dungeness crab – the largest and tastiest! The daily limit is 12 males that are at least 5 ¾” inches across the crab’s back. You can tell difference by flipping the crab over and looking at its abdomen.  Males have a narrow, triangular abdomen flap while females have a wide, rounded one. Be careful to pick up crabs from the back of their shell to avoid being pinched!  The second most popular crab on the coast are Red Rock crabs. They look similar to Dungeness, but they have dark red shells, and the tips of their claws are black. Crabbers can keep up to 24 red rock crabs per day, no matter the sex or size.   There are numerous spots to go crabbing on the Oregon Coast. A few popular locations are:  Necanicum: Dungeness Nehalem Bay: Dungeness Tillamook: Dungeness, Red Rock Netarts Bay: Dungeness, Red Rock Nestucca Bay: Dungeness Siletz Bay: Dungeness Yaquina Bay: Dungeness, Red Rock Alsea Bay: Dungeness Coos Bay: Dungeness, Red Rock  Stay with Us on the Oregon Coast or on the Bay  Looking to book your perfect home base to explore all the fun to be had on the Oregon Coast? Why Honeymoon in Cannon Beach, OR?

Oregon’s most romantic destination is Cannon Beach, and there’s no better place for adventure, romance and love when celebrating your new union! You want your honeymoon to be comfortable, relaxing and focused on you but never boring. A small town with a romantic reputation knows what you want and how to deliver. Wine tasting, fine dining and art appreciation are solid Cannon Beach experiences and you can make your honeymoon extra special by adding a dash of North Coast adventure to your visit. Action-packed or Laid-Back, you’ll remember your Cannon Beach honeymoon forever. Top 5 Activities and Attractions to Put On Your Itinerary 1. A Romantic Walk on the Beach, Anyone? Strolling the beach hand in hand is a romance staple, and Cannon Beach has over 4 miles of sandy beach waiting to be explored. No matter the weather, Oregonians and visitors learn that the beach has something to offer in every season: Balmy kite flying blue skies; breezy days playing chase with the birds and even stormy weather watching with rain in your face.  If you walk north from downtown, take a side trip up Ecola Creek, watching for Roosevelt Elk and Cannon Beach bunnies along the way. This way will take you to NeCus Park, where Lewis and Clark first traded with the local Clatsop people. It will also connect you with the Nature Path through downtown. Time the tides correctly and head south; you can make a full day’s walk and back to Arch Cape, Falcon Cove and Hug Point. Goonies Never Say Die! 2. There’s Also Mysterious Rainforest Walks Forests surround Cannon Beach and taking an easy walk in the woods is a must-do coastal adventure. Hold hands and make your way through the rainforest’s salal, ferns and Sitka spruce trees to the sandy beach at Hug Point State Recreation Site and its romantic beach waterfall. There are little caves to explore, tide pools to view and the historic roadway carved into the sandstone cliff, when travelers had to ‘hug’ the edge to make it around the corner. Closer to town, the Rainforest Reserve above Cannon Beach has an easy hiking path throughout. 3. Creating & Viewing Art in Downtown Cannon Beach An artists’ village for decades, Cannon Beach is now famous as one of America’s top 100 art towns. You’ll find art galleries representing every type and style of artwork tempting you in for a private show. Intimate and interactive, galleries are welcoming personal spaces where you’re just ask likely to find the artist at work or ready to visit with you. Stroll the streets and take in the plentiful public art installations or find immersive activities like those offered by the Tolovana Art Colony. The Chamber of Commerce calendar is the place to find workshops and classes during your visit. Dance, paint, make; opportunities are all over town for crafting and creating to make your own souvenir experience on your honeymoon. 4. Elevate Your Imbibing Education Craft brewing, distilling and boutique winemaking have all made a home on Oregon’s North Coast and each comes with its own language, culture and complexity. Learn about vintages, mashes and fermentation from dedicated pros. Wine tasting events take place weekly at The Wine Shack or on demand at Laurel’s Wine Shop, and Pilot House Distilling has a tasting room for their spirits and canned cocktails. Breweries like Bill’s Tavern, Public Coast Brewing Co and Pelican Brewing have their vats on display and tasting flights on the menus and servers are happy to walk you through the choices. These are all excellent ways to learn about the subtleties that make these small batches special and appreciate your alcohol in a whole new way.Coffee and tea are also craft creations in Cannon Beach; we even have a specialty Chocolate Café! 5. Explore More of the Oregon Coast Food Scene The dining scene in Cannon Beach is already famous so you’ll appreciate choices from coastal classics to the latest award-winning cuisine. Romantic multi-course meals are a specialty at the Stephanie Inn, Newman’s at 988 and the Wayfarer or taste globally at Castaways for Caribbean flavors or Mi Corazon Mexican Cuisine – just few of our favorite Cannon Beach restaurants. For your special honeymoon getaway, take the experience up a notch and book a Dinner Show at EVOO Cannon Beach, where the instruction, wine pairing and technique are presented in the chef’s display kitchen for small groups. Be sure to check out the North Coast Food Trail for details  on fishers, producers, harvesters, grocers and dairy farms along the 70 miles of coastline from Cannon Beach to Lincoln City.  Cannon Beach’s family favorite Bruce’s Candy Kitchen is on the list, for their locally made, memory making sweets. The Mountains in Central Oregon

The Cascade Mountains in Central Oregon are rugged and majestic. Visitors can enjoy hiking their trails, skiing their slopes, or gazing at their snow-capped peaks from several view points and scenic byways throughout the region.  Check out some of the Central Oregon’s most notable peaks:  Mount Jefferson Lewis and Clark spied this mountain not far from the mouth of the Willamette River in 1806 while on their Corps of Discovery expedition – and named it in honor of President Thomas Jefferson. Mount Jefferson is the second-highest mountain in Oregon, and is also the northernmost of the Cascade peaks in the region.  Three Fingered Jack Known for its craggy peak rising up to the sky, Three Finger Jack is one of the oldest shield volcanoes in the Cascade Range. It is a popular peak for experienced mountain climbers, with a 7,841 foot summit that boasts breathtaking views of other Cascade volcanoes in the region. The northeast face of the mountain is considered one of the most challenging and dangerous climbs in Oregon.  Black Butte This extinct stratovolcano is located just outside Sisters. The nearly perfect symmetrical shape is among the most distinctive in Central Oregon. Hike to the top of Black Butte in the summer or fall, where you can enjoy stunning views of the majestic Cascade peaks.  Broken Top Located just south of the Three Sisters sits Broken Top, a glacier-carved stratovolcano with a shattered peak that’s among the most distinctive in Central Oregon. A popular hiking trail leads to the summit, rewarding those up for the challenge with breathtaking views of ponderosa pines, fields of wildflowers, and a turquoise lake.  Mount Washington Known for its long, curvy slope and short, yet angular peak – this deeply eroded volcano was named for President George Washington. Today, the Mount Washington Wilderness is home to hiking, backpacking, and equestrian trails – including the Pacific Crest Trail.  Three Sisters The trio of volcanic peaks are among the most striking in Central Oregon, each rising more than 10,000 feet. Three Sisters were known to the pioneers as Faith (North Sister), Hope (Middle Sister) and Charity (South Sister). The Sisters have become one of the most popular destinations for climbers in Oregon.  Mount Bachelor Mount Bachelor got its name largely because it stands apart from the Three Sisters, and is an iconic image with its somewhat flat top. The mountain is home to the largest ski area in the Pacific Northwest (and the sixth largest ski area in North America), and also boasts a variety of summer activities including ziplining and mountain biking on its slopes.   Please Note: In an effort to preserve the beauty of the wilderness, Central Cascades Wilderness Permit System is limiting the number of hikers and backpackers at many of the most popular mountain trailheads, so we encourage you to check their site for updated permit information and requirements.  Book a Stay with Us!  Ready to hit the trails?
